While much of the country is shoveling snow, Florida hosts are prepping for sunshine-filled days and surprisingly chilly nights. If you’re welcoming out-of-town guests this holiday season, comfort is key — and that means making sure both your AC and heating system are ready to switch gears at a moment’s notice.
Daytime Warmth, Nighttime Chill
Daytime AC: Guests from colder states may be shocked by Florida’s midday warmth. A smooth-running AC keeps the house cool and inviting.
Evening Heat: Once the sun sets, temperatures can dip into the 40s or 50s. That’s when your furnace or heat pump steps in to keep everyone cozy.
The balancing act: Florida homes need both systems in tune to handle quick climate swings.
Pre-Holiday Heater Checklist: Avoid the “Seasonal Start-up Odor"
Nothing kills the holiday vibe faster than the musty odor of a heater that hasn’t been run since last winter. Here’s how to prep before guests arrive:
Turn it on early - If you haven't already, run your heater for 15–20 minutes a week or two before guests arrive. This burns off dust that collects on heating elements.
Change the filter — A fresh filter improves air quality and efficiency.
Check vents & registers — Make sure they’re open and clear of furniture or décor.
Listen & check for unusual sounds or odors — Odd noises or lingering smells could signal it’s time for a professional inspection.
Schedule a tune-up — A quick maintenance visit ensures your system is safe, efficient, and guest-ready.
Upgrade to a smart thermostat -A smart thermostat doesn’t just save energy — it keeps your guests comfortable without you lifting a finger. Florida’s winter days can be warm enough for AC, while nights dip low enough to need heat. With a smart thermostat, you can set one consistent temperature and let the system automatically switch between heating and cooling, even while you sleep. That means no more waking up to adjust the thermostat or worrying about guests fiddling with the controls.
